Anurag Thakur-led Parliamentary Committee Holds Extensive Deliberations to Strengthen Transparent Coal Block Auction Process
Parliamentary Standing Committee Reviews Coal Block Auctions for Enhanced Efficiency, Sustainability and Energy Security
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Coal, Mines and Steel, chaired by Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, Member of Parliament from Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh), today convened an important meeting and held extensive discussions and deliberations with senior officials from the Ministry of Coal, Ministry of Power, and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).
The primary focus of the meeting was a comprehensive review of the Coal Block Auction and Allocation process, with the objective of further strengthening the framework for greater transparency, faster project execution, and long-term sustainability in the coal sector.
Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Committee noted that the earlier opaque and scam-ridden allocation system of the UPA era has been successfully replaced by a transparent, competitive auction-based regime. This shift, supported by streamlined clearances and comprehensive policy reforms, has effectively eliminated corruption, significantly accelerated project operationalization, and ensured a more efficient and sustainable supply of coal to meet the country’s growing energy needs. Shri Anurag Singh Thakur highlighted that these reforms are playing a pivotal role in bolstering India’s energy security and contributing to the larger goal of building a Viksit Bharat.
Shri Thakur emphasised that the Committee will continue to closely monitor the implementation of these policies and provide constructive recommendations to the Ministries concerned, aiming to address any remaining challenges while promoting responsible mining practices, environmental sustainability, and faster development of coal resources critical for national progress.
